Harvest pace in Norway is trending on a slightly lower level than expected

The Norwegian weekly trade statistics indicates a slightly lower harvest volume than initially anticipated for February 2024. The adjustment made is attributed to somewhat higher number of individuals harvested (22G S0) in January 2024 and lower harvest weights. This results in less harvest for both February and March in terms of number of fish. Our current harvest forecast for Q1 2024 is notably lower than both Q1 2022 and Q1 2021.
The weekly statistics presented in the table below highlights the limited availability of fresh whole superior salmon. Looking ahead, as we approach Easter, we anticipate an increased harvest pace for smaller-sized fish (23G S1) and a deficit of larger-sized superior salmon vs. demand. Additionally, we see a notable increase in volumes of fresh salmon fillets. This is mainly related to quality issues and downgrades caused by fish health issues (jellyfish and winter ulcer).
